"I've dealt with a couple other trainers in the past. Jeff by far was the best of those three. I highly recommend Jeff and Better Nature Dog Training." - Sharon E.

Why choose a CCPDT-accredited trainer?

About the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers

Veterinarians generally prefer to refer patients to trainers who have attained the CPDT-KA (knowledge assessed) distinction.

I first earned this nationally-recognized certification in 2012 and after attaining the necessary continuing education in 2019, am certified through 2022. This credential requires years of experience; references from veterinarians, colleagues and clients; and a formal examination to confirm expertise and proficiency in dog learning theory, canine husbandry, and ethology—the scientific study of animal behavior.

Off-Leash Adventures

Parks and preserves for exercising your dog au naturale

One bonus of dog training is that a well-trained mutt enjoys more freedom in off-leash settings. San Francisco Dog Trainer Jeff Stallings' Training PhilosophyI have researched and hiked many gorgeous Bay Area beaches, parks and preserves that allow well-trained dogs off-leash. So take a hike with your best friend while enjoying the Bay Area’s ample natural beauty.

Dog Training Rates

My services are conducted in your home or a designated outdoor location. Fees are based on two broad categories: behavior consulting to address specific problems, and basic obedience training for your puppy or dog:

Behavior Consulting

Behavior modification to address specific issues is $150 for three hours of as follows: (1) 30 minutes of pre-appointment phone consultation; (2) a 90-minute on-site session; and (3) 60 minutes of follow-up, during which I write a custom training plan based on the on-site appointment, delivered via email within 24 hours.  Additional sessions are $100, consisting of 90 minutes on-site and 30 minutes of follow-up.

Basic Obedience Training

Basic obedience teaches core commands and behaviors: Potty training, touch, sit, down, stay, recalls and 'go to your place'. We also cover curbing undesirable behaviors such as jumping up and biting. Sessions are tailored in accordance with your schedule and your animal's progress.

Ongoing Support

I am fully committed to your success and therefore offer on-going support via phone, email and text at no additional charge.

Liability Release

Before the first appointment please print and complete my Intake and Liability Release forms. The Liability Release must be signed before training begins.

Cancellations

I aim to be a flexible as possible and to work within your time contraints. Cancellation less than 24 hours before a scheduled appointment will be billed in full.

Equipment

All leashes, collars, clickers, training treats, bait bags and other training equipment are to be supplied by the owner; I will provide a detailed list via email before our first appointment. Alternatively, using my professional discount, I can purchase these items on your behalf in exchange for full reimbursement at the time of the first appointment

Puppy Socials

I strongly recommend an intensive puppy socialization schedule for all puppies between eight weeks and six month of age. I recommend those held at Wag Hotels, SF Puppy Prep, and Smartypup in San Francisco, and Bravo!Pup in the East Bay.
